The Whats What

4 parts playwrights, one part dirty alleyway, 3 parts site specific, 2 parts gristle

BOOKTIX:

Originally directed by Kat Henry and now handed over to MKA's Tobias Manderson-Galvin, four playwrights write four new performative works to be shared for the intimate viewing pleasure of the Fringe Festival audience.

Inspired by those narrow street spaces we pass everyday, and performed in those very same areas, Side Effect presents site-specific, contemporary works full of sass, wit and a handful of grit.

This is the Alleyway Collective’s first project, and the brainwave idea of playwright and performer Eloise Maree. Inspired by the hidden alleys and arcades of Melbourne city, the project encourages artists to write site-specific works responding to space and local subject matter, stripping back the performances to create raw experiences that can be lost in large-scale theatres. This unique brand of pop-up theatre is a concoction of engaging, energetic and visceral performance made from all locally grown and produced ingredients, and embellished with the tasty trappings of naughty nights, dreamlike days and those forgone fantasies in Fortitude Valley.
